Machetes and beer

Missionary work is good. We are really working on finding investigators and it's been kind of hard and tricky, but we are going to try to focus on it a lot this week.

So a few weeks ago we got a call from a mom in Georgia and her sons are going to Kent state and she just told us about them and about her too and wanted us to stop by. It's been a while since then and we have stopped by quite a few times and we finally met one of them. It was so exciting!

So we walk in and we are waiting for him to come downstairs and there is just a machete on the floor and i don't really know how to describe the rest of it. It is definitely a college party house. There was lots of left over streamers and a beer bong. I think the only thing they had in their fridge was beer. But Shawn came down and he saw us and just excused himself to go and put on a shirt.

He talked to us for a while. He hasn't gone to church much for quite a long time now and he told us a little bit about it. When he was 16 he started dating a foreign exchange student and moved to Poland with her for a while and then they moved to California and then she got deported and now he is in Kent. He has done some interesting things. It was an experience to go there cause we got to meet a few of his roommates too. Let's just say they were popping balloons with machetes and they offered us some beer. They were really nice to us though. They asked us if we wanted to pop some balloons, but they had all run out of balloons.

But we told him where the church was and he said that he might come. Then when we left we started walking down the driveway and he came out and asked us if we would be at the branch cause it would be better to know someone than no one at all because he went a year or two ago at Easter when he was in California and he didn't really like it because he didn't know anyone. But we got his phone number and he said he would come to church next week. We were so excited. He has a girlfriend who is catholic and he has gone to the catholic church so he said he could maybe bring her to the Mormon church for a week.

So on Tuesday morning i went out in our living room to start doing jumping jacks or something and sister goodman walked into the bathroom and immediately walked out and there was a live mouse in our sink. It was stuck. So sister Goodman got it in a sack and we took it outside. She really likes animals to stay a live. She said it was cute. And then on friday there was another mouse. We were just getting to the end of studies and it ran right past our door and i screamed and got on my chair and so did sister goodman. and we are both up standing there and she was like what is going on. So we cleaned and straightened a bit. We don't really know what else to do. We went and saw a less active right after and she told us about a mouse trap you can make out of a milk jug. Apparently it can't get out of those either. It was fun.

Also i didn't realize how much st. patrick's day is such a partying holiday. We were driving down the street on sunday and there was just people all over in green and just spilling out of the bars. It was really sad to see. We just wanted to go up to all of them and be like you need the gospel. It was so sad.

There was also a ward party on Friday that we went to. It was a chili cook off. I'm sure you know how much i like beans and chili and guess what. The missionaries were the judges. It was fun though. Not too many beans. The one that i liked the best didn't win though. Sad.
